The home you choose. The community you build.

In the Canary Islands, it is already happening.

Canarias Cohousing accompanies young people, families and seniors in the Canary Islands to create real coexistence communities: with your own space, with people you chose and without loneliness.

Living well shouldn't be so complicated. Not so lonely.

1 out of 5

people in Spain suffer unwanted loneliness. Those most affected: young people between 18 and 24 years old.

40–60%

of the average salary goes to rent. And yet, you arrive at an empty floor.

It is not the only option

Residences are not the only way. But no one tells you the alternatives.

What is cohousing and how is it different?

Cohousing is a way of living together where each person has their own private apartment and shares common spaces with a community they have chosen. It is not a shared apartment. It is not a residence. It's something new.

all ages

Regardless of your age, there is a place for you here.

Youth (20–35)

You want real community, not just roommates. And access to housing without a mortgage for life.

Families with children

Raising in a tribe is more natural. Here the neighborhood you need for your children already exists.

In transition (40–55)

Divorce, change of city, empty nest. Cohousing is where you can reinvent yourself with like-minded people.

Active seniors (55+)

Total autonomy, without loneliness. Your house, your rules, with people of all ages nearby.

Social awareness

You already know the model. In the Canary Islands there are already active projects. Enter the network.

Your questions, answered without technicalities.

No. Intergenerational cohousing is designed to mix ages: youth, families with children, adults in transition, and seniors. That diversity is the key. Each generation brings something different — energy, experience, care, perspective — and the community is enriched by all of them.

No. Each person or family has their completely private and independent apartment. Kitchen, bathroom, living room: all yours. The common spaces (multipurpose room, community kitchen/dining room, workshop, laundry and others according to the needs of the community) are optional. You use them when you want and how you want. No one enters your house without your permission.

The annual membership fee is €60. With it you access the entire network of projects, in-person events, thematic work groups, informative talks and participation in the association's decisions. It is the first step, without further commitments.

It depends on the specific project. Normally between 3 and 7 years from the formation of the group to the move. It seems like a lot, but each phase has its own value: you meet people, co-design your future home and make decisions calmly. It is not a wait, it is a path.
Not necessarily. There are models of transfer of use (you don't buy, you use) and cooperative models. Each project defines its own economic conditions with the participation of all its members. There are options for different financial situations.

All projects define entry and exit protocols from the beginning. If you decide to leave, you can do so at any time. Your economic and emotional investment is protected by internal agreements and cooperative frameworks. Nobody gets trapped.
